MY UTERRA

Growing up, I was immersed in stories of our family’s deep roots in Sierra Leone, shared by my grandmothers, mother, and father. These stories were my compass, grounding me in who we are and where we come from. They shaped my view of the world, fueling my curiosity about other cultures and the importance of understanding one’s heritage.

This curiosity became my lens on life. I was drawn to the backgrounds of my friends, eager to know the stories that shaped their lives. It led me to choose French in the fourth grade and eventually pursue an International Relations and Diplomacy degree. I knew then that I wanted to be part of a global conversation, bridging cultures and building connections.

My first professional job after college was at Burlington Air Express. My parents were ecstatic that I landed a job that aligned with my course of study in school. At Burlington, I could leverage my academic training and my command of the French language on calls and in meetings with my French counterparts. From Burlington, I began working for The Limited, Inc., Express Division, where I learned the power of branding and how to communicate a culture beyond my own. This experience and my academic and cultural background aligned my work with my values. I saw that fashion, like diplomacy, could connect us across borders.

Over the last 25 years, traveling through South and Central America, Asia, Africa, and Europe, I found inspiration in every destination— vibrant textiles, intricate patterns, and rich traditions. These experiences fueled my desire to create a fashion brand that could unite these elements—a brand that celebrates the richness of our shared human experience.

Uterra&Co. was born from this passion for culture and connection. It’s more than fashion; it’s a way to honor our stories, embrace our roots, and connect with the world. Through Uterra&Co., we hope everyone learns to celebrate better the humanity that makes us who we are.

Your World, My World, Our World—that’s the essence of Uterra&Co.–now, let's go live with it
